Tohono Chul Park and the Arizona Department of Water Resources
partner to sponsor the annual Xeriscape Contest to recognize the
best public, private and commercial landscape projects that integrate
water conservation and the use of native and drought-tolerant plants
while maintaining the aesthetic beauty of the desert in the Tucson
Basin. The Veterinary Specialty Center of Tucson was recognized in
the Professional Category Division for "Best Mini Oasis" honoring
their pet comfort garden.
The garden, designed by Elizabeth Przygoda of Boxhill Landscape
Design, offers a serene, peaceful space to celebrate the lives of
our pets during hospital visits or when saying a final good-bye.
Amidst the bubbling fountain, trees, and flowers, are a series of
trellises upon which to hang engraved bells. Bells are not only a
happy reminder of the jingling sound of tags on pet collars, but
"every time a bell rings, an angel gets their wings"! We feel that
these bells will make a beautiful, lasting memorial to celebrate all
the wonderful "pet angels" in our lives. Money raised through the sale
of these bells will be used for the
Cause Four Paws Fund, our
non-profit organization established to assist pet owners in need of
specialty and/or emergency care at VSCT.
